Pull the small primer hose off the hose barb on the top of the top carb. Turn the key to on, and push in on the key. If fuel pulses out of the end of the hose, the solenoid is working.Re: 1996 Evinrude 88 SPL increase in HP. Likely both engines have the 13:26 gear ratio. Both engines will have similar initial power, but the 115 will walk away from the 88 at higher rpm's.
